Healing Childhood Wounds: Unpacking Decades of Trauma

Sometimes, the period of trauma ends in the therapy chair. Recently, I worked with a 45-year-old woman facing deep feelings of humiliation from her close family, despite her love for them.

During therapy, she uncovered a crucial memory from her childhood. At just 7 years old, she vividly remembered her father's explosive anger as he kicked her dinner plate across the room, followed by humiliating remarks towards her mother. This left her feeling confused, helpless, and hungry, with many lingering questions.

Years later, she realized this childhood trauma had shaped her adult experiences. She discovered that her feelings of hunger, both physical and emotional, were tied to the unmet needs from that traumatic event.

Through therapy, she gained insights into her repressed and unaware past incidents and the beliefs she had internalized. With this understanding, she began to unravel her trauma and reclaim her power to rewrite her story.

In taking the step forward to understand and heal our current life issues, we tap into our own power of self-realization. By courageously confronting the echoes of our past traumas, we not only reclaim our inner strength but also unlock the path to profound understanding, healing, and empowerment.
